Jesus was once asked by His disciples, ‘why when they prayed for someone to be free from a demonic spirit, they were unable to do so.’ Jesus replied in Matthew 17 verse 21 “Howbeit this kind goeth not out but by prayer and fasting.”
Jesus not only spoke about fasting on this occasion. It is by such discipline that all is offered to the Lord that He will direct and build His Church. We see in Acts 13 verse 2:- While they were worshipping the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, “Set apart for me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them.” 3 Then after fasting and praying they laid their hands on them and sent them off. When we purposefully fast to seek to hear from God, He will speak and direct us!
True Fasting unlocks many things. Fasting is humility before Christ, to surrender all to Him. It is when we fast, that His purposes are achieved, and we see that breakthroughs happen in Jesus mighty name!
