Then it happened. The promise of God that His Spirit would be poured out in the final days! We read of this in Acts chapter 2 where around 120 persons including the Apostles, the brothers of Jesus, the women including Mary were gathered. It says from verse 2: – “And suddenly there came from heaven a sound like a mighty rushing wind, and it filled the entire house where they were sitting. And divided tongues as of fire appeared to them and rested on each one of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit gave them utterance.” The light of Christ was now in his people to go and shine for Him! We carry the ‘light’ of Christ in us if we belong to Him.
What was so unique about these person’s that in looking down, heaven sees the timing was right to release the Holy Spirit?
Firstly, these were a devoted people to Jesus. They loved Him with all their heart, soul, mind and strength! He was their life! They were giving their whole bodies as worship for Jesus and Jesus now sees He has a devoted team to take the message to the world. This was the beginning of the church and as we close in on the 2000 years of Church history, does heaven see a devoted people as this? We pray the Church of Impact is!!
The team of Pentecost were in complete ‘unity’. Psalm 133 shows the result of unity. It says:-
Behold, how good and pleasant it is
when brothers dwell in unity!
2 It is like the precious oil on the head,
running down on the beard,
on the beard of Aaron,
running down on the collar of his robes!
3 It is like the dew of Hermon,
which falls on the mountains of Zion!
For there the Lord has commanded the blessing,
life for evermore.
The ‘anointing oil’ of the Spirit being poured out through the High Priest Aaron, onto his whole body! Christ as our High Priest and we, His body! The dew of Mount Hermon so full of nutrients and makes the land fertile for growth and a harvest, that as result the blessing, is deposited at Mount Zion forevermore! Phew!! Powerful!
So, the ingredients are ‘unity’, waiting, being still, knowing God in prayer and very importantly too, submission to God alone! In prayer and the waiting, we wait on His voice alone. The submission to the authority of Christ is key.
Let us be this Church. Let us be a ‘body’ of Christ with the same desire! Let us love Jesus with all our being! He is worth it!
