The Apostle Paul writes to the Church of Ephesus, in chapter 2 – verses 8 and 9, “God saved you by his grace when you believed. And you can’t take credit for this; it is a gift from God. Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have done, so none of us can boast about it.” Such wonderful words. But how do we react to such an offer? This gift of grace that is totally underserved?
We can only respond with reverence and in awe of a God who did not spare His Son to die and take our sins upon Himself! We express to others the hope of salvation and eternal life in Christ, but we must remain in the knowledge that it has nothing to do with us. It is not what we did to earn salvation. It is not our actions that gave us eternal life! Our sins separated us from God. It is to remember the beautiful love of Jesus – how much He adores His Church – His Bride to die for her!
God’s grace enables us to come to Him and not hide! Adam and Eve after they had disobeyed God were hiding from God behind a tree! “Where are you?” called out God. But we who are now in Christ, can come boldly and unashamed.
The Apostle Paul continues to write about the amazing love of Christ for us, that whilst we were sinners Christ died for us. In 1 Timothy 1: 15 –“This is a trustworthy saying, and everyone should accept it: “Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners”—and I am the worst of them all.”
We would do well to remember that.
