Break the ‘yoke’ of darkness – walk in the light!

In our walk in life, we can be yoked with many things. Jesus says in Matthew 11, verses 28 to 30, –“Come to me, all who labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” For my ‘yoke is easy.’ This is the kind of yoke we need to be attached too! However, sometimes before we can truly enjoy being ‘yoked’ with Jesus, we need to unyoke ourselves with other things. The Apostle Paul warns us not to be ‘yoked’ with unbelievers in the letter to 2 Corinthians, but also, we need to unyoke with some that can appear ‘christian’ but in fact are deceiving us on a different path than the one Christ intended for us!

A heretic does not announce they are one, as well as a deceiver does not admit to being deceived! We can easily ‘attach’ ourselves to others and their teaching and follow them. But without knowing the one, that is Jesus, we can easily be led astray and follow false teaching and messages. In the letter of 2 Timothy, chapter 4, Paul warns us that in these days, many will surround themselves with teachers that satisfy their ‘itching ears’ and will not put up with sound and truthful doctrine! This is clearly true, as many like the ‘motivational’ be happy, healthy and wealthy prosperity messages. Who wants to hear messages about carrying your cross, die daily and live wholly for Jesus that brings opposition? But this is light! This is truth and Jesus has sent His Holy Spirit to guide us and walk with us as we walk out our lives for and with Him! His yoke is easy, and His burden is light – Jesus says it so it is true!
