Jesus’ yoke of rest.

Jesus says in Matthew 11:28-30

‘Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.’

What does Jesus mean by this? Being a Christian is sometimes extremely difficult, facing many trials and challenges. Just imagine what it would be like without the indwelling of His Holy Spirit?

He calls us to yoke ourselves to Him as we go about our daily lives, just as a farmer would sometimes yoke a young oxen together with an older experienced one, so that it may learn from and be guided by the older one. We should also seek out yoking ourselves (committing and submitting) to a mature Christian friend and a church that is seeking the Lord’s will every day.

Jesus promises that His yoke is easy and His burden light. When we yoke ourselves fully to following and serving Him, casting our cares on Him, He will help us through the ups and downs of life. More than that, He will guide us into His purposes for our life! That’s something we can truly rest in!

But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be added.
