When we look at our lives, we can reflect and can come to the conclusion that it can feel like one long “wrestle.” From our childhood, our thoughts, those around us can influence us and we can start pondering – “who am I? Why am I here? What is my Purpose? Our bodies grow and change, our thoughts multiply and there is this ongoing wrestling within ourselves and all around us.
In the Old Testament, we see a story of Jacob, the son of Isaac. From the time of being in the womb where he ‘wrestled’ with his older twin Esau, we see him struggling with his ‘calling and identity.’ We all do but we can know that there is one who does know us, it is our creator God. Psalm 139: 13 to 14 says:-
13 For you formed my inward parts;
you knitted me together in my mother’s womb.
14 I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made.
Wonderful are your works;
my soul knows it very well.
He knows us well! Jacob wrestled with God in Genesis 32 and would not let go of Him! Let us be like Jacob, holding onto God, not letting go of him whatever circumstances we find ourselves in.
Jesus knows fully well the ‘wrestling match’ of life. As we ‘fight the good fight of faith’, we have one standing in our corner whom too ‘wrestled.’ He did not just wrestle. He laid down His life! But though the opponent thought he was dead, and they turn to celebrate, 3 days later, Jesus would raise from the ‘canvas’ and claim victory over death!
When we know our identity in Christ, we are on the winning team whatever the enemy may think! JESUS IS IN OUR CORNER!!!!
