The Slippery Slope

A slippery slope is a most dangerous place for anyone. One small minor step on an ice-covered slope turns into a catastrophe. From a small step, it all ends with a dramatic fall, bruises and any range of injuries! This is how it is in all areas of our world, our lives and the Church of Christ!

When we ignore the instruction and Word of God, when we think ‘it’s okay to allow this or that’ before you know it, you are on the ‘slippery slope.’ You can scramble and struggle but there is no way back up the ‘slope.’

Authorities and leaders can pass all manners of laws and legislation, but when they make decisions that say – “we will make the choice – we don’t need God and His rules” the inevitable WILL happen. The slippery slope has begun and the ending will be very dramatic. It will hurt!

The Apostle Paul writing to the Church at Thessalonians, chapter 2 verses 1 to 3 says, “Now concerning the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our being gathered together to him, we ask you, brothers, not to be quickly shaken in mind or alarmed, either by a spirit or a spoken word, or a letter seeming to be from us, to the effect that the day of the Lord has come. Let no one deceive you in any way. For that day will not come, unless the rebellion comes first,….” He says before the coming of Our Lord Jesus, there will be a rebellion. This means a ‘falling away’, the ‘apostasy’ – where many are on the slippery slope of compromise and being deceived. It is so important to ‘stand firm’ on the Word and not to please the world. Jesus warns His Church numerous times – “do not be deceived.”

Before we knew Jesus, our past decisions led us to the slippery road. We crashed, we were wounded and broken. God took us then, repaired, restored us and forgave us our sins so we could be restored and walk on a different solid path! Let us not be deceived. Let us not undo the previous work by compromising and taking a step on the “slippery road.” The end of the slope will be very painful indeed.
