In the book of Matthew 21 verses 2 to 3, we see Jesus saying:- “Go into the village over there,” he said. “As soon as you enter it, you will see a donkey tied there, with its colt beside it. Untie them and bring them to me. 3 If anyone asks what you are doing, just say, ‘The Lord needs them,’ and he will immediately let you take them.”
“Untie the donkey and it’s colt and bring them.” This appears to be a small unassuming exchange and story but there is a deeper meaning behind.
The donkey and it’s young (colt) were tied. Upon an instruction from Jesus, they were loosed to be brought to Jesus for him to use for a particular purpose. In effect, he is saying “let them go, for the Master has use for them!” It is like that with all of us. Once upon a time we were bound in sin, our chains, restrictions and past but now, Jesus has ‘loosed’ those chains and set us free! We are now brought to Him for HE DOES HAVE A PURPOSE FOR US! The young colt had a purpose and so do we!!
The young colt had never been mounted and used. The young colt’s first task was to carry the Lord into Jerusalem. Jesus used a colt that had never been used, a clean animal that had been set aside for His purposes! Though we all have sinned and are not ‘clean’, the blood of Jesus has cleansed us and made us new! With that He uses us as though we have never sinned. He has a purpose for all of us – we are free to be used for the Master’s purposes! “Set my people free – I have use for them!”
