A pause before the Sabbath.

When Jesus entered the Synagogue in Nazareth, he was handed the scroll of the prophet Isaiah to read. Jesus found the passage where it starts with “The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me,…” and closes with the first part (what we now call chapter 61 verse2) “…to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favour”. Jesus then closes the scroll and hands it back, saying “that this scripture has now been fulfilled in your presence”. Wow! Jesus stopped short of finishing the completed sentence in the scroll, which ends with “and the day of vengeance of our God!” This is a statement from Jesus, that right now we are in the time of God’s favour – before the day of judgement that is to come upon the earth! He has pressed a ‘pause’ button before the end. It is just a pause, a pause of 2000 years of the church age! Upon completion of this period Jesus will release the ‘pause’ button to usher in the end – before He comes to reign for His millennial Sabbath! God is passionate about the Sabbath as we see through scripture and Jesus will have his Sabbath. In the time left, are we practicing Sabbath delight?” Are we learning already what it is to take a day, to ‘stop’, ‘rest’, ‘delight and contemplate God today?” To learn what it is to draw closer to God now in preparation of the Sabbath to come in Jesus? Let us now press into the Lord of the Sabbath today and as we do we will find ourselves eagerly awaiting the glorious day of His coming for His church!
